Welcome to irishscoutbadges.com.
This site is dedicated to the history of badges worn by Scouts in Ireland since 1908. There are over 800 badges in the
collection and each one of them represents a particular aspect of Irish Scouting history. Those aware of Irish history
will also appreciate that the badges very often reflect the political and social history of the island.
When The Boy Scout Association was founded in 1908 the whole island of Ireland was part of the (then) United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland. Since then Scouting in Ireland has taken a number of diverse trails and the badges contained
in the collection reflect this.
I have attempted to provide as much information as possible regarding badge design and manufacture but nonetheless the
collection is small in comparison to the total number of badges produced and the information at times may seem scant.
Naturally I would welcome any additional badges or information thereon. Unfortunately, due to other Scouting Commitments, I am not in a position to swap any badges at this time.
The collection is a '
work in progress'. In time I would wish to display all badges (both cloth and metal) and awards
produced by the various associations over the years. The website would not have been possible without Dashe's technical
skills and for these I am particularly grateful.
